This is the fun part… we love this business!
For 35 years we’ve helped make so many pianists happy.
We are America’s largest independent rebuilder of Steinway pianos.
We started 35 years ago when our founder, Sara Faust, began a piano company that was guided from the start by the knowledge she derived from her background as a professional concert pianist. Sara won a number of prestigious international piano competitions including Concert Artist’s Guild and the first New York Chopin competition. She also performed widely, including a sold out solo performance at Carnegie Hall.
For Sara’s performance career, she sought the best possible pianos. Her favorites were the “Golden Era” Steinway pianos that had a special magical tone that tended to be lacking in new Steinways. Her dilemma was that the great old Steinways were in need of restoration but the shops that were restoring pianos at the time were producing only mediocre quality instruments. So she hired the best craftsmen and technicians she could find (including some former Steinway & Sons craftsmen) to rebuild her vintage Steinways, and she guided them to restore the pianos to their full former glory. Sara was thrilled to practice and perform on the great vintage Steinway pianos that she was resurrecting. When word spread in the piano community that she was producing these wonderful instruments, pianists from around the country began buying them. Thus, a small side business emerged, which ultimately led to a full scale enterprise.
Complimentary to our Steinway rebuilding business, our affiliate company, Faust Harrison Pianos runs four NY-area retail stores that sell our Steinways as well as new and used pianos from Yamaha, Bosendorfer, Bechstein and Fazioli.
Today we remain a family business, wholly owned and operated by Faust family members, Sara and Irving, their son Joshua and their daughter Jessica.
The National Association of Music Merchants recently interviewed Sara Faust. She dialogs about her piano performing career and how it evolved into her Steinway rebuilding enterprise.
