Original Steinway Foundry Harps

Steinway & Sons once manufactured magnificent cast-iron harps (the heart of a piano) in their own New York foundry, but that foundry is long gone. Vintage Steinways contain those original NY foundry harps but new Steinway pianos do not. This is one of the reasons that even the best new Steinways don’t have the special Steinway “soul” that defines the Golden Era Steinway.

Vintage Steinway Cases

Steinway once produced marvelous case designs, including Victorian, Tiffany, Centennial, Louis XV, Colonial, Empire, Jacobean, Queen Anne, Chippendale, Art Deco, etc. These were hand-made by Steinway’s master craftsmen applying skills that have become very rare, so these magnificent cases can practically only be found in vintage Steinway pianos.

Rare Wood Veneers

Steinway once procured magnificent exotic wood veneers for their cases, including African Mahogany, Circassian Walnut and African Rosewood. Sadly, many of these woods are endangered and no longer available on new pianos. These magnificent veneers can only be found on vintage Steinways.

20 Year Warranty

Our 20-year warranty is a testament to the high quality of our work. Steinway pianos that we rebuilt 20 years ago are every bit as good today as the day they were rebuilt, and for the 35 years that we have been in business, we have not had a single substantial warranty claim! Compare this to the record of Steinway & Sons; according to their last financial statements, their warranty claim expenses averaged over $1 million per year.

Purchase Price

Rebuilt Steinways sell for 20 – 30% less (up to tens of thousands of dollars) than the price of a new Steinway, and depreciate at a slower rate than new Steinways. As such, our pianos are not only superior instruments, they are a much greater value than new Steinways.

Steinway’s Golden Era

The Golden Era Steinway is unrivaled for its magical Steinway tone.  In the words of Theodore E. Steinway:

The best Steinways ever built were built 100 years ago

With a truly masterful restoration we fully recreate that magic in a way that would delight Theodore.

And the Math is Easy

Rebuilt Steinways’ value proposition is clear:

  • Lower upfront cost
  • Lower depreciation

For a piano that so many pianists feel is higher quality than a new Steinway.
Once customers visit us, very few purchase a new Steinway piano instead.

There is simply no Steinway like a “Golden Age” Steinway

The quality and value of an expertly restored vintage Steinway is impossible to match
